Mbabswood Films has just released a heartfelt short film, Umondli – The Bread Winner, now available on YouTube. Directed by Floriano Santos, the film stars 11-year-old Anele Wakhile Shabangu and the talented Hloniphile Mahlon’s Sihlongonyane, known for her role in Isitha: The Enemy on eTV.
The story follows Sipho, a young boy thrust into adulthood after losing both parents. He takes on the role of breadwinner while caring for his grandmother, who suffers from memory loss. The film gives a raw and touching look into the struggles faced by children who must grow up too soon to support their families.
With its relatable story and emotional depth, Umondli has already struck a chord with viewers. It’s a powerful reminder of the resilience and sacrifices made by so many young people.
