Nomzamo Dlamini Biography
Nomzamo Dlamini, popularly known as Zamo, is a Swazi-born Afro-soul singer, actress, and entrepreneur who has captivated audiences with her powerful voice and stage presence. Born on March 5, 1989, she discovered her love for music at the age of six and has since built a remarkable career in the entertainment industry.
Early Life and Musical Beginnings
Growing up in a musically inclined family with strong church roots, Zamo’s passion for singing was nurtured from a young age. Her journey began in church choirs, where she honed her vocal skills. At just 15, she recorded her first demo, which became a hit on Eswatini radio stations, setting the foundation for her professional career.
At 21, she released her debut album, Injabulo, under Universal Music South Africa. The album featured the popular song Lobola, which gained traction on major South African music platforms, including SABC 1, Soweto TV, and Channel O.
Rise to Fame
Zamo’s big break came in 2011 when she was featured on SABC2’s Afro Café. That same year, she relocated to South Africa, where she crossed paths with legendary musician Mbongeni Ngema, who played a pivotal role in her career. She worked alongside him and served as a backup singer for both Ngema and Tsepo Tshola.
In 2014, she joined the renowned Joyous Celebration Choir, making history as the second Swazi to be part of the gospel group. She spent four years with them before branching out to focus on her solo career.
In 2017, she released Tinyembeti, a soulful single that solidified her presence in the Afro-soul genre. She went on to perform at prestigious events like the Swaziland Bushfire Festival, Simunye Fun Fair, and the Swaziland International Trade Fair.
Expanding Her Horizons
Beyond music, Zamo is a versatile creative. She has appeared in productions like Jackpot Mathambo and contributed to the Isibaya soundtrack. She also took the lead role in No. 43, a musical by Mbongeni Ngema.
In 2021, after five years in the beauty industry, she launched her brand, Spotless_ByZamo, a makeup and beauty salon based in South Africa.
Recognition and Achievements
Zamo’s talent has earned her the opportunity to share the stage with industry greats like Salif Keita, Judith Sephuma, DJ Cleo, and DJ Sdunkero.
Most recently, she won the Best Siswati Artist/Group award at the SATMA Awards for her song Lendlela, marking yet another milestone in her already impressive career.
