Today we are appreciating and celebrating 85 years of Dr. Esther Mahlangu, one of South Africa’s most famous artists. Her bright and bold abstract paintings are inspired by Ndebele design which she learnt from her mother and grand mom as a kid.
The South African painter was born 11 November 1935 in Middleburg, Mpumalanga and was the first person to re-invent Ndebele designs that are traditionally used for decorating houses on contemporary mediums.
She has exhibited in some of the world’s most respected museums and counts celebrities Usher, Swizz Beatz, John Legend and Oprah Winfrey as collectors, she was the first person to transfer the time-honored Ndebele style of painting from the wall to canvas, effectively promoting and preserving the art form.
We wish you many more years to come Dr.!!!!!!!!
