Over the course of the day, they brought thoughts on some of the country’s leading creatives. Featuring: Thembinkosi Mthethwa, Snowee, Symphony, Mdura, MoCats, Modison Magagula & Slindile Bhembe.
Nolwazi Snowee Simelane(Model & Actress)
“Being a creative to me means having to invent, take risks, make mistakes, experiment, grow, break rules but at the end get what you want. So it takes a very courageous person to do all this..
My hopes & aspirations for the future is seeing individuals have courage, realise their dreams & make a difference.”
Slindile Bhembe (Fashion Designer)
“Being a creative means having a unique God given talent that you can share with people. My aspiration for the future is opening my own boutique which will help me explore & express myself.
I also hope to become motivation for upcoming designers because I believe fashion is taking a different turn. People want to look good & trend.”
Nomfundo MoCats Sifundza (Poet)
“Being a creative means I have the power to influence, educate, inform, entertain & earn a living out of it. Personally, I hope & aspire to see the local industry benefitting creatives & exporting them.”
Thembinkosi Mthethwa (Actor, Voice over Artist, Director & Script Writer)
“Being a creative is taking something that was not known and creating something that people can appreciate & consume, with the hope that it will inspire & educate the next person..”
I hope for change. Let’s have the creatives make a living out of their creativity-being able to say, this risk that I have taken, can in turn, pay me. I also hope that the industry can grow, be noticed worldwide & compete with the rest of the world!”
Salayedvwa Magugula (Author & Theatre Director)
“Being a creative is about the passion of inventing. You need to be able to see what others don’t see. And once you touch something that everyone saw as ordinary, you change it.
The most important thing once you discover that talent within yourself as a creative is to then develop it by going to school. In that way, it will expand. My wish for the future is to see all local creatives being able to earn a living through their talent.”
Mduduzi Mdura Dlamini (Comedian)
“Being creative means you have the power that you can’t begin to understand; power to influence using your craft; power to create; power to move; power to empower. That power used the right way is a doorway to endless possibilities.
I hope we get to a point where the industry is professionalized & creatives can make more than a decent living through their different creative spaces. Personally, I just want to always have the discipline to keep doing what I do and enjoy it.”
Zanele Symphony Cele (Singer)
“Being a creative is an expression of your unique self and sharing your colorful self with the world. My hope for the future is that local creatives make their way to world platforms. We have a lot to offer; being local should never be the ultimate goal.”
