This year the singer-songwriter has been working on introducing herself to the mainstream through the release of buildup, lead tracks ahead of the release of her debut EP, Msholokazi. With each lead release, Bassie’s spotlight and fan base grew.

The album vocally borrows from the conventions of Maskandi, which is to tell the lived experiences of either the musician or the people around the musician. In this esteem, Bassie told not only her story. But those of other black women she grew up with and around.

Additionally, the use of the Maskandi convention is implemented in the production of the album as Bassie enlisted the pioneers of Amapiano from her hometown of the Eastrand. This includes MFR Souls and T-Man SA as recurring features and contributors to the album
