The Ugandan capital Kampala will host next year’s MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs), Returning after a four-year break, with the last awards hosted by South Africa, the MAMAs come at a global pandemic time, which means that there will be a lot of digital experience.

MTV made the announcement on Wednesday and said the event will take place on February 20, 2021. The Kampala presentation will be the first-ever live-streamed virtual MTV Africa Awards. It will also be the first time that the awards will be held in Uganda. The MAMA has demonstrated to have the power to inspire young people and unifying communities across the continent through music, which is the main reason why it was decided to be brought back now. The show will air across the continent on the MTV Base and MTV networks, featuring “vibrant performances from African and international artists and the show’s signature cross-genre and cross-border collaborations. It will also air as a one-hour MAMA-themed MTV World Stage on MTV and BET international channels across “multiple” other continents.
