In the 9th episode of the MTN Spotlight, the contestants brought on the fireworks, stage props and an army of dancers to show they can command the stage and leave us all with goosebumps.
This week the hardest part of the show -the eliminations, -was up first on the chopping board.
Like any other show, yesterday’s had a little twist and turn, as Irven’s light was re-kindled by the judges after he had been eliminated earlier. This brought the remaining number of contestants on the Spotlight to 7.
This week however got off to a shaky start, with Sihle receiving a lukewarm reception from the judges after performing ” welcome aboard “. Judge Velemseni highlighted that Sihle has a great voice but his nerves got the better of him, however he was able to keep engagement with the audience after a few mistakes here and there.
Thembumenzi had an impressed Velemseni beaming with her rendition of ” Gendza” by Sheperd brothers Featuring judge Velemseni. ” Today you brought everything you needed for the show, the swag, voice and stage presence”, she said.
Following Lisa’s performance of “something about you” by Shasha, the judges were disappointed that Even though she did her best, Lisa was singing off key on half of the song.
Sethu Performed “Deeper” by Nomalungelo and guest Judge Symphony said she has a nice voice, but was a bit nervous though she got the rythm right. Symphony said she should learn how to transfer energy to the audience next time for an even better performance.
Irven’s performance of “still” by Liqui-D was good according to the Judges, although a few highlights were made on him needing to improve on his stage presence. The judges wished him all the best.
Zanoxolo performed “Time” by DJ cup and Slotta featuring Zinia. Velemseni said she her performance was amazing. She also mentioned how Zanoxolo had grown vocally over the past weeks and how improving on her stage presence have shown that she now fully understands herself as an artist much better.
Tselile wowed the Judges with her rendition of Emadlelweni by DJ Mbo featuring Symphony. Symphony was pleased by her energy and that she was just herself enjoying every ounce of her performance.
Naledi closed the show with a beautiful of piece called “happiness” by DJ Cup and Slotta featuring Mvelo. Judge Velemseni said her performance was great, but she needs to push herself harder a little harder if she is stay a little longer in the competition.
