A clip has been circulating all over social media where a snippet from this year’s #BaseHottestMCs countdown show sees Kamo Mphela being called a rapper. Just to give a little bit more context, Kamo Mphela is a dancer and Amapiano vocalist, as well as a performing artist.
Kamo broke into the entertainment scene as a dancer who used to bring heat to the club dance floors, before deciding to use her voice as a musician. She is definitely not a rapper. At least until she decides otherwise, but for now, she is one of the hottest Amapiano break out stars this year. During the conversation which was headed by popular female DJ Ms Cosmo, the panelists got into a very heated debate when trying to compile a list of the top hip hop artists in the country for this year. Nota, kwesta’s ex manager downplayed Costa’s influence by saying Kamo Mphela was more influential than he was in the hip hop industry.
“I don’t think Costa Titch has had more impact than Kamo Mphela,” said Nota as the whole panel laughed at him. Cosmo then asked him just for clarification whether Kamo is a rapper or not, Nota replied by saying, “yes, she’s a rapper.”
